Saturday, October 22, 2005 from 2 to 5 pm

The Polish American Historical Association in conjunction with the Polish American Congress of Southern California will host a seminar on October 22nd from 2 to 5 PM at the Ahmanson Auditorium at Loyola Marymount University. The topic discussed will be the untold story of the massive displacement of 1.7 million Polish citizens to slave labor camps in Siberia during World War II. At the end of the war, Poland was abandoned by its allies and left in the control of the communist regime. Stalin strictly forbid discussion of this persecution and as a result, this epic tragedy has gone virtually untold.

As part of the presentation, a film entitled “The Forgotten Odyssey”, produced by Jagna Wright and Aneta Naszynska will be viewed. A panel discussion featuring some of the survivors, will share their family’s memories of the Siberian Experience. Ms. Wright and Ms. Naszynska, residents of London, will be on hand to discuss the movie and challenges of capturing the first hand accounts of the Soviet prison camps.

Admission to the event is $5.00. A reception will be held following the discussion in the history department at Loyola Marymount University. For more information contact Miss Jamie Harasick (661) 254-7383, Mr. Richard Widerynski (562) 426-9830 or Mrs. Lucy Borik (714)670-8224.

28th June 2003
60th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony for those Poles murdered in 1943
(in Wolyn and Eastern Galicia) by Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN-UPA)
Wroclaw, Poland

Program of the day:
10:00-10:30 - Opening at the Pomnik-Mauzoleum (located on Bulwarz Xaw. Dunikowskiego)
10:30-11:00 - Procession throught the city
11:00-11:30 - Remembrance of the Dead in the market square
11:30-13:00 - Memorial Service in the church of St. Elizabeth

Organised by the Stowarzyszenie Upamietnienia Ofair Zbrodni Ukrainskich Nacjonalistow (The Association for the Remembrance of the Victims of the OUN-UPA)

Background to the event: The armed units of the OUN-UPA acted under the German occupation and sought to create an ethnically homogenous and independent Ukrainian state by eliminating all non-Ukrainians from these historically mixed lands. Often these attacks followed warnings to Polish villagers to abandon their homes and go to German-occupied Poland. The horrific ethnic cleansing massacres are a dark chapter in the history of the Kresy.
